The South Carolina Gamecocks and the LSU Tigers entered the Colonial Life Arena as the only two unbeaten teams remaining in women's college basketball, which meant only one could end the game as the top team in the sport, and that was the Gamecocks. Fueled by a rocket start to the contest, the Gamecocks reminded every other team in the country why they're widely considered the new standard in the sport.

The beginning of this matchup was arguably the best the Gamecocks had had all season long, quickly going up 18-2 in just the first five minutes and eighteen seconds of the contest, mainly due to the Gamecocks' aggressive mindset in attacking the paint through their guards. The Tigers made nine substitutions in the quarter as Kim Mulkey tried to figure out which combination could get LSU back in the game, and as it turned out, her answer would be just one individual, Alexis Morris.

Morris started to create space due to her elite ball-handling and attacked the Gamecocks with her midrange shooting, almost single-handedly getting LSU within three points halfway through the second quarter. The Gamecocks maintained their lead through their frontcourt play, as they grabbed ten more rebounds than the Tigers and completely shut down superstar Angel Reese, holding her to just three points and one rebound in the first half.

A back-and-forth affair between both teams kickstarted the second half. The Gamecocks continued to get penetration from star guard Zia Cooke. Boston made her presence known on the low block, using her basketball IQ and skill arsenal to create space and draw significant attention from the Tigers' entire lineup. In the same vein as the Gamecocks, LSU tried to attack the paint area, but Carolina's depth allowed Dawn Staley to rotate at an efficient rate that allowed her team to continue to exert full effort with their defensive game plan.

In the end, South Carolina's stacked roster was just too much for Kim Mulkey and the LSU Tigers to overcome, as the Gamecocks showcased to the entire country on Super Bowl both what they've built and what they can do to even the best competition in women's college basketball.
