When watching South Carolina's matchup with the LSU Tigers on Sunday afternoon, it was a game that played out about how most people expected it to go; some back-and-forth stretches, momentum swings for both sides, and an energy that made the game feel like it was for a championship.

In the end, South Carolina was just too much for the Tigers, pulling away late in the fourth quarter and sending a resounding message to their future opponents that you must play lights out to even have a chance of beating the Gamecocks.

South Carolina was extremely balanced on the offensive end, as five Gamecocks wound up with double-digit scoring outputs, which according to point guard Kierra Fletcher after the game, was due to the team being completely in lockstep.

"I think it started off with everyone just being aggressive, sharing the ball, passing up a good shot for a great shot, and I think we pushed tempo really well from start to finish. I think we just played great team basketball."

One player who gave South Carolina fits was LSU guard Alexis Morris, who, through a herculean effort, got the Tigers back within three points midway through the second quarter, causing coach Staley to decide to put Fletcher back in as the primary defender on Morris, who wasn't the same once this adjustment was made.

"I mean Morris, like I said before the game, she's special. She's a hard guard, and I thought Kierra did a great job in the first quarter, and then when we [subbed], she got loose a little bit, and then we just decided that it's Kierra," coach Staley explained. "We wanted her to tire herself out, and maybe she doesn't have as much lift on her shot towards the end of the third quarter into the fourth quarter."

South Carolina has now won six matchups against top 25 teams this season, which has allowed the Gamecocks to figure out where they stand compared to where they want to end up, and according to Aliyah Boston, the team is right on schedule.

"I think we're in a good spot. Every time we get battled tested like this with a top-five team or whatnot, I think it shows our maturity. I think we do a great job taking care of the ball, which we just need to continue to do that and just execute key sets."
