Lamont Paris Meets With Wofford Forward BJ Mack
South Carolina's Wednesday night loss to Ole Miss in the SEC Tournament marked the end of a disappointing season for the Gamecocks. Though things looked promising at the beginning of the year, an 11-21 finish means things need to change personnel-wise. Lamont Paris has started building the roster for next season and made a big step in that direction earlier this week, meeting with transfer-portal target B.J. Mack on Monday.
Mack, a four-year veteran at USF for his freshman season and Wofford for the rest, has developed into a solid forward. Standing at 6-8, Mack has especially grown in terms of his ability to score the basketball at an efficient rate, averaging 16.6 points a game over the past two seasons while shooting 49.2% from the field and 33.5% from three this season.
While Paris was the first coach to meet with Mack in person, a display of the coach's push to rebuild this roster, although the 6-8 forward has also been in contact with Arkansas, Georgia Tech, and Tennessee, along with other programs. With the potential loss of GG Jackson to the NBA Draft, adding Mack, a high-scorer wing with size, helps recoup some of the loss.
