GG Jackson Puts Forth Valiant Performance Against Ole Miss
Lamont Paris and South Carolina's basketball team left Bridgestone Arena Wednesday Night disappointed after a narrow loss to the Ole Miss Rebels. Though a tough pill to swallow, there was one point of promise; a good game from GG Jackson.
Jackson, who has at times looked like a future top-three pick in the NBA Draft, hasn't had quite the season many would have hoped. Though he started the season out hot, nearly averaging 20 points a game through non-conference play, his performances became inconsistent once South Carolina's conference slate began. Despite that, he has continued to fight and try to help his team win games.
Jackson's efforts were on full display against Ole Miss on Wednesday night in the SEC tournament, as he was the Gamecocks' most consistent scorer, dropping 24 points in the loss. His final point total reflects his expansive scoring prowess and his aggressive mindset, as Jackson was attacking the basket, getting easy buckets, and getting to the line consistently.
Jackson was also more than willing to shoot the three ball, nailing two, including a pivotal three-pointer to bring the Gamecocks within one possession late in the game. Jackson's display was much of what the Gamecocks have been hoping for this season and is a promising sign for the young star as he looks to continue to grow both on and off the court. With the NBA Draft fast approaching, and Jackson's decision to stay or go still unclear, performances like Wednesday are increasingly important if the freshman star decides he's ready to take on the NBA.
