South Carolina's loss to the LSU Tigers yesterday afternoon was their second straight defeat, the first time that's happened all season. The lack of late-game execution was notable and led to the Gamecocks needing a "miracle to happen" at the end because they didn't take advantage of their chances to put the game away, as Lamont Paris alluded to after the game:

"You only get so many chances; there's not an infinite amount of chances to do the right thing, and at some point, you run out of chances."

At one point, Carolina had a 16-point lead, which slowly dwindled towards the end of the game, mainly due to their second-half decision-making. Coach Paris thought the team's defensive play in the final 20 minutes was where the team made critical communication errors that he put on himself:

"We had talked multiple times coming down the stretch (to foul) ... both teams had fouls to give, which was a little strange... We talked about what we wanted to do; we had two possessions that we had specifically, one right after a timeout that we would foul and what that would look like and when to do it and how to do it. Again, that's the responsibility that I'll take in this whole thing," the Gamecocks head man lamented. "Somewhere between the huddle and the floor, that was lost in translation."

Moving forward, Lamont understands that there are lessons to be learned and to learn fast from both winning and losing. He'd elaborated on that, saying:

"The only real travesty about this game will be if you don't learn some things from it. There will be some learning for sure, but I think it's more about doing also, we need to do better, we need to do a better job in terms of execution."
