It's the matchup that South Carolina, LSU, SEC, and women's college basketball fans have been waiting for for nearly a full calendar year: Gamecocks Vs. Tigers. The two best teams in the southeastern conference. Two Top 10 teams in the AP Poll. The last two national champions.

If the matchup between the players isn't enticing enough, the matchup between future Basketball Hall of Fame coach Dawn Staley and current Hall of Fame coach Kim Mulkey should quench the fans' appetite. Mulkey met with the local media in Baton Rouge to discuss the Tiger's upcoming game against the Gamecocks and lauded the team's unwavering talent level and the success they've had this season.

"South Carolina just reloads," Kim exclaimed. "South Carolina is as good, in my opinion, as they were last year with new players. No one seems to have found the formula to beat them, and just like we will try to do the same thing a lot of teams do, and that's try to upset them. We're the underdog. I love underdog roles, and I know that it'll be one heck of an atmosphere, and it's going to be good for us. It's going to be good for South Carolina, it's going to be good for the SEC, and overall good for women's basketball."

The last time LSU defeated the Gamecocks was back in the 2011-12 season, but despite the fourteen losing-streak the Tigers currently possess against Carolina, there's a feeling that this series is quickly becoming a rivalry due to the significance this game has both in the SEC and national title pictures. LSU's head coach, however, conveyed that she doesn't view the series quite in that light.

"I don't look at it that way. I've played South Carolina when I was at Baylor. If you're asking about the program not beating them X number of times, I don't know what it is. It would be a good thing, but it's not going to be the end all [be all], you know. If we beat them, life goes on. If we lose, life goes on. There are bigger games down the road for South Carolina and for LSU. I view this game as a tremendous challenge, a tremendous opportunity."
