FINAL: No. 15 South Carolina Use Strong Second Half Surge To Get Past Vanderbilt
Lamont Paris and the Gamecocks were looking to remain on their winning streak and secure a win over Vanderbilt to do so before the big clash Tuesday night against Auburn. The Commodores made it very interesting in the first half, doing everything a road team needed to do to win in the SEC. However, South Carolina woke up during the half and came out on fire, playing a solid second half, beating Vanderbilt 75-60.
In the first half, while Carolina didn't do anything wrong, Vanderbilt just did what you had to do, so beat a team on the road and beat this Gamecocks team right now. And that's make contested shots and make your threes. The Commodores were efficient at making 44% of their threes and putting stress on the Gamecocks, forcing them to play down four going into halftime. Collin Murry-Boyles was a beacon of consistency in that half, going 5-7 with eleven points.
South Carolina would not wait long at all to get things going on the offensive end, starting the first couple of minutes 7-8 from the floor behind BJ Mack with six quick points and Collin Murray-Boyles, who had nine quick points and sat at a new career-high 20 points with less than 16 minutes left to play. The Gamecocks continued to stay hot in the second half offensively and never looked back including Boyles who finished with 31 points.
Mack and Murray-Boyles combined for 49 of the Gamecock's 75 points and led the charge to secure the win. Coach Paris and the company can now look into the top 15 matchups they have Tuesday night against the Auburn Tigers, where a lot of eyes will be watching.
