Dawn Staley and the South Carolina Gamecocks are one step closer to booking their tickets to Dallas, TX, for the NCAA Women's Basketball Final Four this weekend. The only obstacle between them and their desired destination is the Maryland Terrapins, a team South Carolina is all too familiar with.

The Gamecocks faced off against the Terrapins in just their second game of the regular season back on November 11th, a game which saw South Carolina stars Zia Cooke and Aliyah Boston lead the charge offensively, combining for 34 of Carolina's 81 total points en route to a 25-point win in College Park. Back then, however, Maryland was without their do-it-all star player in Diamond Miller, who for the season is averaging 19.6 points per game on 47.3 percent shooting from the floor while also racking up 6.5 rebounds per game on average.

While Miller will undoubtedly garner the majority of the attention from Gamecock defenders, this game, on paper, shapes up as a fantastic matchup for South Carolina. Aliyah Boston and the rest of the Gamecock frontcourt hold the overall height and depth advantage in this contest. After racking 23 more total rebounds than the Terrapins in their previous meeting, even with Diamond Miller in the mix, South Carolina should be able to make a living in the paint later tonight.

Another aspect to watch in this game is how the Terrapins will try and disrupt the Gamecocks' offensive flow through their persistent defensive pressure. Maryland is 24th nationally in turnovers forced per game with 19.68 and made South Carolina cough up the basketball 20 times in their contest back in the Fall. There's a catch, however, to the Terrapins' strategy, as while Maryland can create extra possessions when things are clicking defensively, they give up a lot of points when things don't go their way, as they've allowed opponents to shoot 41.2 percent from the floor on average this season, ranking 231st out of 350 Division One teams.

Overall, South Carolina has too many factors that fall their way and should be able to topple Maryland later tonight.
