South Carolina MBB Bracketology Update: March 12th
Bracketologists have reached a consensus heading into conference tournament week for South Carolina's men's basketball team.
We're just five days away from Selection Sunday and two days away from the beginning of South Carolina's second SEC Tournament journey under head coach Lamont Paris. While it's been known for several weeks that the Gamecocks are a guarantee to make the big dance, Carolina helped themselves in terms of seeding in the last 17 days, winning four of their last five conference games, including three victories on the road.
The selection committee likes seeing wins away from one's home venue and the recent projections from several bracketologists reflect that notion.
NCAA Tournament Projections
CBS Sports' Jerry Palm: No. 5-seed in West Region (No. 20 Overall)
ESPN's Joe Lunardi: No. 5-seed in East Region (No. 17 Overall)
NCAA Analyst Andy Katz: No. 5-seed in South Region (No. 19 Overall)
Field Of 68 Network: No. 5-seed in West Region (No. 20 Overall)
If the Gamecocks can defeat the winner of the Arkansas - Vanderbilt game on Wednesday, defeat Auburn on Friday, and at least look competitive in the semifinals on Saturday, they might have a shot to make the four-seed line. We'll of course see how things play out over the next few days.
