South Carolina Bounces Back With Great Team Performance In 77-64 Win Over Arkansas
After a disappointing loss for the Gamecocks this past Tuesday evening, Lamont Paris and the staff wanted to get back on track, but it would come with some obstacles. One of which being the loss of Myles Stute, who Coach Paris said will be out for the next 2-3 weeks with a shoulder injury. South Carolina would see their whole team step up in Stute absence in Carolinas third SEC win this season over Arkansas 77-64.
South Carolina wanted and needed to come out in this game and establish a rhythm and they did just that, leading the game for the entirety of the first half. While BJ Mack had s stretch where he hit back-to-back-to-back threes, helping increase the gamecocks lead to double digits; a majority of the first half was a complete team effort with all nine players who played getting on the score sheet and heading into halftime with a 12-point lead.
Carolina continued to move the ball around and maintain their double-digit lead for most of the second half. Arkansas would go on a small run, but Coach Paris Called a timeout with about 13 minutes left in the game, and the Gamecocks didn't look back after that, going on a 13-1 run after the timeout. South Carolina would continue cruising to the game's end, seeing four guys finish with ten or more points.
This may be the best overall team performance that South Carolina has had this season. They had guys like Josh Gray, who before this game was averaging 1.5 points per game, step up and finished the game with 6 points. They also had Collin Murray-Boyles step up as well ending with 11 points. Now Lamont Paris and the guys will head back home, where they will face off against a top ten team in the country, the Kentucky Wildcats.
