Gamecock MBB Team Jumps Up AP Top 25 & USA Today Coaches' Polls
Last week, South Carolina's men's basketball team made an appearance in both the AP Top 25 and USA Today Coaches polls for the first time in seven years. The breakthrough encapsulates the significant progress the Gamecocks have made under second-year head coach Lamont Paris, who has set new records and has his team in the thick of the conversation in terms of being on one the Top 5 seed lines in the NCAA Tournament.
While Carolina secured victories over the Ole Miss Rebels and the Vanderbilt Commodores this past week, several teams ahead of them in one of or both of the polls dropped at least one game, teams like Alabama, Kentucky, Auburn, Wisconsin, Baylor and Illinois. These combined results led to Lamont's team being slotted at No. 11 in both the AP Top 25 and the USA Today Coaches Polls when their weekly updates were released on Monday afternoon.
