Looking forward to Tuesday's night SEC vs ACC bout, South Carolina will attempt to keep their undefeated record when they take on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Notre Dame comes into the game winners in each of its last two games out of a five-game-home stand, largely in part due to Markus Burton, who broke the school's freshman debut scoring record with 29 points, originally set by Notre Dame legend LaPhonzo Ellis back in 1988.

Though a more undersized guard standing at five-foot-eleven, Burton is a quick twitch guard who excels at beating defenders off the dribble on the way to the basket. The freshman also excels at the foul line, shooting 90 percent from the free throw line.  Shooting 28 percent from behind the arc as a team for the season, Notre Dame will likely use a variety of ball screens to place him in one one-on-one matchups.

Carey Booth

Fellow freshman Carey Booth, who's six-foot-ten, is another Notre Dame player to keep your eyes on Tuesday. He is currently only averaging seven points in the season's early goings, but if he gets into a rhythm, watch out. Already proving that he can go off for points in bunches, South Carolina will be wise to play him as tightly as they will Burton. Booth, a lanky shotmaker, had a career-best performace against Western Carolina University, scoring 20 points.

Keys Of Success For South Carolina

  • Fight Through Screens - Don't allow screens to be a consistent problem, allowing them to free up driving lanes
  • Close Out - Though Notre Dame is struggling to shoot the ball to this point in the season, on paper, this team is more than capable of beating you by making shots. So don't be the team they get right on.
  • Just Hoop - Entering the game as the more experienced undefeated, the Gamecocks need to stay in their offensive flow state. With five players averaging 9 points or more, it'll be interesting to see who will support B.J. Mack more tonight, as Mack's been the most consistent offensive player thus far for South Carolina.
