FINAL: Gamecocks Win A 70-68 Nail-Biter Over Texas A&M

South Carolina's men's basketball team finishes the two-game road stint with a win in College Station over the Texas A&M Aggies.

Lamont Paris and the Gamecocks look to get another quad-one win to add to a rather impressive resume in year two of coach Paris. After getting back in the win column with a victory over Ole Miss on the road, Carolina headed into College Station looking to lean on their gritty defense, which's won them many games this year. Behind their defense, which got better in the second half along with a big night from Meechie Johnson, South Carolina defeated Texas A&M 70-68.

The first half was rather ugly, but Carolina still managed to walk into halftime with a lead. While offensively, the Gamecocks could knock down their shots, shooting over 50% from the floor and assisting on eleven of their twelve baskets, the turnovers hurt them a bit. Defensively, it was a rather good performance in that they forced the Aggies to settle for many contested jumpers; however, they fouled quite a bit, allowing Texas A&M to shoot 14 times from the line.

Meechie Johnson and South Carolina came out of the half-fast, going on an 11-4 run before the first media timeout. However, things turned for the worst as the Aggies would go on a 17-1 run and found themselves in the bonus with just under ten minutes remaining. Carolina also found themselves on a six-plus minute drought, heading into the final eight minutes. They would fight back and take a four-point lead with three minutes left.

Gamecocks would have a heart throbbing final minutes and wind up making big-time shots and finishing with big offensive boards. There is more to take away and learn from this game, but Coach Paris and fans will take this win back home to Columbia. They are improving to 23-5(11-4) and will host two massive games at home against Florida and Tennessee in their next two games.
