Gametime Announced For South Carolina's First Round Matchup
South Carolina's Women's Basketball team found out on Friday night that they were the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament, officially slotting them in Greenville Regional 1. The Gamecocks' seeding position also means that from a seeding standpoint, they'll be facing off against the lowest-seeded team in the entire tournament, which wound up being the Norfolk State Spartans.
The Spartans went 26-6 this season, winning the MEAC Conference Tournament title to become an automatic qualifier for the big dance, and although outmatched from a personnel standpoint, must be beyond excited to get a shot to face off against the perennial powerhouse of the sport in Dawn Staley's South Carolina Gamecocks. Gamecock fans have eagerly awaited the latest information on when each of the first and second-round matchups is taking place for South Carolina due to the fact they'll be hosting both rounds in Columbia, and finally got their answer on Monday morning when the team announced that game one is set for around 2 pm eastern daylight time on Friday afternoon.
The Gamecocks are entering the tournament the winners of 38 straight games dating back to the beginning of the NCAA Tournament last year and will look to continue that streak later this week.
