It was a sweet, sweet victory over the Alabama Crimson Tide for Coach Dawn Staley, who earned her 600th career win while clinching the regular season SEC title. Not to mention the South Carolina Gamecocks accomplished this feat without their leading scorer and rebounder, Kamilla Cardoso, as news broke about an hour prior to tip off that the 6-foot-7 post would miss the game due to general soreness.

In her absence the Gamecocks got off to a slow start, shooting a low 18 percent in the first quarter, but never looked back afterwards, starting the second quarter scoring 17 unanswered points. Serving up six first half total blocks, the best team in the country only allowed Alabama to convert on four of their thirteen layup attempts in the first twenty minutes of play.

Aside from leading the team in blocks, sophomore Ashlyn Watkins led all South Carolina scorers with 14 points to go along with 10 rebounds. Four different Gamecocks finished with ten points or moreL Bree Hall (13), Sania Feagin (10) and Tessa Johnson (12). Johnson finished perfect from behind the arc (2-2). Chloe Kitts and Malaysia Fulwilley both finished with 9 points each.
