Be honest. There was probably a point in time late on Saturday afternoon when you felt like there was a possibility that Dawn Staley and the South Carolina Gamecocks weren't going to be playing for the SEC Tournament Title, but thanks to the late-game heroics of Kamilla Cardoso, you won't have to relive yesterday's action for all the wrong reasons. It's the game that SEC fans and women's basketball fans everywhere hoped would take place in the conference tournament: a highly-anticipated rematch between the Gamecocks and the LSU Tigers.

When the two titans squared off in Baton Rouge back in late January, it was South Carolina who emerged victorious after establishing a stronger presence on the glass in the second half and hitting multiple clutch three-pointers at various points in the game.

This time, the contest will take place on a neutral floor, albeit within the Palmetto State's borders. The Tigers, unfortunately, will come into this game a banged up group, with Last-Tear Poa suffering a concussion last night against Ole Miss, freshman star Mikaylah Williams having not played a minute in the tournament dealing with plantar fasciitis in one of her feet, and Angel Reese playing on a twisted ankle against the Rebels that swelled up to be 'as big as tennis ball.'

At this point, however, the Gamecocks shouldn't assume that any game is going be easy from this moment onward, especially today's title matchup, because, for one, LSU is still plenty talented even with this rash of injuries. Two, Carolina has not played their best basketball as of late. In their last three games, two against Tennessee and one against Texas A&M, the Gamecocks have let their opponent either match their 2nd half point total or surpass it (Lady Volunteers scored 50 points in the second half yesterday compared to South Carolina's 38 points). This is unlike the Gamecocks, who are known as a team that gets stronger on both ends of the floor as a game progresses.

While Dawn's team has had its stretches of elite basketball in Greenville in March, continuously allowing your opponents to hang around will eventually catch up to you. We'll see if they can avoid that against their SEC rival later today.
