Where GG Jackson Sits In NBA Mock Drafts
G.G. Jackson was ranked as the No. 1 prospect in the 2023 recruiting cycle before he reclassed and had offers from all over the country, but he stayed home and helped the Gamecocks.
He silently committed to old head coach Frank Martin and the staff with the plan to reclassify after the school parted ways with Jackson. He publicly committed to North Carolina for a bit before Carolina basketball star Carey Rich helped flip G.G. back to South Carolina.
Going into this season, G.G. started it off at 17 years old, the youngest player in college basketball this season. He may have been the youngest, but he had the most pressure on his shoulders for his play in the 2022-23 season, where he performed well and broke freshman records all year.
G.G. turned 18 later in the year, making him draft-eligible. A part of the reclassification was for Jackson to get into the NBA quicker. With his reclassification, NBA GMs could get a guy likely to be projected as the number one overall pick in mostly the lottery round this year, so let’s look at where they think Jackson could be picked on draft night.
The New York Knicks
CBS Sports has G.G. Jackson being picked 17th overall by the Knicks.
This could be a nice spot for Jackson, who could learn a lot from a guy like Julius Randle, who has a similar type of game to Jackson. The Knicks also have rising players like Jalen Brunson, RJ Barrett, Immanuel Quickley, and Mitchell Robinson.
The Utah Jazz
Bleacher Report has G.G. Jackson at pick No. 15 for the Utah Jazz.
Another spot where G.G. Jackson could learn from another board with a similar playing style in Lauri Markkanen and another young core possibility in a roster of guys like Collin Sexton, Walker Kessler, Lauri Markkanen, and Ochai Agbaji
The Portland Trail Blazers
No Ceilings has Damian Lillard getting some more help at pick No. 20 and getting Jackson to go along with some of the pieces they have in place, like Shaedon Sharpe, Anfernee Simons, Trendon Watford, Nassir Little, Cam Reddish, and Jerami Grant.
The Miami Heat
The Athletic has the Heat taking Jackson with the No. 22 pick, trying to get Jimmy Butler another piece in that system.
G.G. Jackson has often been compared to NBA All-Star Bam Adebayo. Therefore, the move to Miami could benefit the young forward to learn under a team that has made some deep runs in the playoffs the last couple of years with a good roster, which could serve as a good situation for Jackson.
