Midseason Bowl Projections For South Carolina
After having vastly exceeded the national expectations placed on them over the past couple of years, South Carolina's Football team aims to do something that a portion of the fanbase viewed as a virtual guarantee before the season began: make a bowl game. For some, this recalibration of expectations is somewhat disappointing. Still, it also would be incredibly beneficial for the Gamecocks to get an extra ten or more practices to develop their younger guys even further and see what their lineup could look like for 2024.
Based on how this college football season has been trending regarding the role home-field advantage is playing, Shane Beamer's squad still has an excellent opportunity to accomplish this goal, as they have five home games remaining on their schedule. Assuming they will find a way to get to six wins, the next question is: where could they be heading?
I went and scoured several week six bowl projections from multiple outlets, and this was what I found:
CBS Sports Bowl Expert Jerry Palm: Birmingham Bowl vs West Virginia
Action Network's Bowl Expert Brett McMurphy: Birmingham Bowl vs Baylor
USA Today College Sports Editor Erick Smith: Duke's Mayo Bowl vs James Madison (Not eligible to participate in a bowl game per NCAA's reclassification rules)
Athlon Sports' Steve Lassan: First Responder Bowl vs Oklahoma State
Only one coach has made it to a bowl game in his first three years as South Carolina's head coach: Shane Beamer's predecessor, Will Muschamp. We'll see if the Gamecocks current headman can become the second coach in program history to accomplish this feat over the next two months.
