Everything Vanderbilt HC Clark Lea Said About South Carolina

Vanderbilt head coach Clark Lea talked about South Carolina's Football team on Tuesday.

On Tuesday afternoon, Vanderbilt Head Coach Clark Lea met with the local media in Nashville to talk about his Commodore's upcoming matchup against Shane Beamer and the South Carolina Gamecocks, talking about their team mood, passing game, and more. Here was what he said in his opening statement:

General Thoughts On The Gamecocks

"I'm excited for the opportunity to to compete against South Carolina. I think this is a team obviously, I know they're not pleased with where they are in terms of the record, [but] there's still a lot of skill on that field and there's good players. There will be challenges for us."

On Spencer Rattler and Carolina's Offense

"When you look at them on offense, you know they've been really effective passing the ball. We know Spencer Rattler is a great competitor and has challenged us. I think when you talk about defending him, you you have to keep him caged up. You have to vary his looks. He's got some talented people that he's throwing the ball to as well and and that'll create some matchup challenges for us. But excited for that opportunity."

On Formulating A Possible Gameplan For Carolina's Defense

"In terms of our offense, I feel like this is a week where we need to pay attention to building chemistry and connection in the passing game. You know, just coming out of the Auburn game felt like whether it be the protection issues or throwing routes when they were open, not before they were open or throwing them open. Seemed to me like we we we just held on the ball a little too long and they're going to be opportunities for us just like there were a year ago offensively against South Carolina. But it's about us fine tuning the things that we need to be good at to have a chance to execute and and again be in a competitive game in Columbia."
