Dante Reno, who has been at the forefront of this recruiting class for South Carolina in the 2024 cycle, has been committed to the Gamecocks since July of 2022, and his commitment never wavered. He made it to the Elite 11 Finals this past Summer and played in the Under Armour All-American Game this past week, highlighting an impressive year for Reno.

Watching Dante's film was a fun process all around, and while there are areas he can improve upon, he's not shy of admitting he can as well, a great trait of an incoming college freshman. I asked Reno the same question. I've asked everyone I've spoken to:

  • What's one area of your game that you think needs to improve?
  • What area of your game do you think will translate to the college game well?

Regarding the one aspect Dante thinks he needs to improve, he said, "I can always improve every part of my game." Going through his film, I noticed his proficiency in going through progressions and reads, and Reno's answer coincided with my thoughts, as he thinks his "Knowledge for the game" will translate well to the college level.

Film Review

As mentioned earlier, Dante showed on film that he's one of the top quarterbacks when it comes to what's "between the ears." Several times, he displayed excellent pocket awareness, being able to sense pressure and step up in or escape the pocket altogether, improvising on plays, or taking off running; He has a quick release when throwing from the pocket, but is also one of the best in this class when it comes to his accuracy throwing the ball on the run.

While he's outstanding pre-snap, there have been times he has put too much touch on the ball. I love his ability to layer passes, and he does it quite often; however, sometimes, he floats some passes that should be put on a rope, but overall, he can make the catchable throws.

Final Thoughts

Dante Reno is a leader. There's no doubt about that. He football IQ and ability to layer his passes make every play a winnable one for his team. Those traits will make him valuable to the Gamecocks because he is coachable and strives to improve. There's no question of the overall talent; he just needs to refine some of his skills in order to elevate his college ceiling even higher.
