Former SEC Head Coach Kevin Sumlin Hired as Maryland Assistant

The University of Maryland has hired former Texas A&M Head Coach Kevin Sumlin as their new offensive coordinator.

Former SEC Head Coach Kevin Sumlin has found a new home with the University of Maryland as the team's new offensive coordinator. According to sources close to the university, Sumlin and the Terrapins came to terms for a contract early Tuesday.

Sumlin served as Head Coach of the Texas A&M Aggies for six seasons. Sumlin led the Aggies to a 51-26 record, and three bowl wins in those six seasons. Sumlin's highlight of his head coaching tenure was his first season with the Aggies in 2012. In that season, Texas A&M went 10-2 during the regular season and won the Cotton Bowl, beating out the Oklahoma Sooners. Sumlin received the SEC Coach of the Year Award for his efforts in the 2012 season.

Sumlin also has served as head coach for the University of Houston and the University of Arizona. Sumlin led those teams to records of 35-17 and 9-20, respectively.

Sumlin will be in charge of a young offense that went 8-5 in the Big 10 this past season. Led by young RB Roman Hemby and QB Taulia Tagovailoa, younger brother of NFL QB Tua Tagovailoa, Sumlin will have the chance to mold a young and promising team.
