One of the biggest headlines surrounding South Carolina's Football program heading into the 2023 season is that Dowell Loggains, formerly Arkansas' tight end coach, will call plays offensively for the Gamecocks this Fall. Anytime a new coordinator hire is made, particularly at an SEC program, that coach is automatically put under the microscope as people look to see if he can help his unit progress more than his predecessor.

Ask any South Carolina, and quite frankly most analysts and pundits, and the prevailing thought is that Dowell Loggains will do better than former South Carolina offensive coordinator Marcus Satterfield, whose tenure was filled with inconsistent showings, with some games this past season, in particular, being quite underwhelming. Loggains will look to mesh his NFL background with what he learned at Arkansas over the past two seasons and try to effectively streamline play calls for the offense, hoping to replicate more of what Spencer Rattler and the Gamecocks did later in 2022.

That task, of course, will be easier said than done, but multiple national voices in the college football media space have stated that Loggains was a fantastic hire for Shane Beamer. One person who echoed those sentiments on Thursday was SEC Network Analyst and former national championship-winning quarterback Greg McElroy, who noted how the verbiage in South Carolina's offense last season didn't allow Rattler to get into a good rhythm and believes that Dowell Loggains "was a great hire for [Spencer Rattler's] development."

When Shane Beamer came onto the SEC Now set later in the day, Dowell Loggains was brought up once again, and Greg dove even further into his reasoning for why he thought Dowell was an excellent hire for South Carolina.

"I've known Dowell Loggains for about 15 years... I think he's a freakin star, I really believe that. I think he's awesome," McElroy emphatically stated. "[He's] great with the guys, [he's a] great teacher, but [he] also knows how to meet them where they're at if they're struggling mentally."

While we've yet to see a single snap of offensive football take place for the Gamecocks, if Loggains can find a way to let Spencer Rattler showcase his talents and distribute the ball to all of his weapons without overcomplicating the scheme, chances are good that South Carolina will take a step forward in 2023.
