This past weekend we caught up with Putnam County's own Jalon Kilgore, and from what we've gathered, the talented defensive back is enjoying his early enrollment in Columbia.

Like most incoming early enrollees, Kilgore was met with pre-spring strength and conditioning period that consisted of less time with the ball and more time sweating on the weight room floor and the outside grass.

Kilgore shared this about his experience thus far. "Practice has been good - mainly lifting and conditioning. The first week was rough, but I'm starting to get the hang of everything, so I've been holding my own."

The physically gifted safety has been speculated to make some noise this spring and will likely earn snaps on special teams, so it will be interesting if Kilgore can manage to push his way up the depth chart at safety. Already weighing in at 207 and standing at six-foot-one, he checks the prototypical boxes that any defensive back coach in the nation wants.

Outside the weight room and organized team activities, the four-star safety finds time for himself. "I mainly just chill with some of the guys - and rest our minds because once the day starts, there ain't no stopping."

Its been a big lifestyle change for Kilgore: Putnam County has 22,585 residents compared to Columbia's 137,541. However, he's comfortable trading the Georgia pines for South Carolina's palm trees. "I've been home once since being here - I'm ready to see all of my friends, but I don't really get homesick," he added.
