In the 2021 season, Shane Beamer and the South Carolina Gamecocks were coming off one of the most lopsided losses in recent program history when they lost to Texas A&M 44-14 in week eight. Coming out of the bye week in week nine, Beamer and the offensive staff decided to make a quarterback change and insert at the time a D-III transfer in Jason Brown, who, over the final four weeks of the season, led the Gamecocks to two upset victories over the Florida Gators and Auburn Tigers. This helped South Carolina become bowl-eligible in Beamer's first season in Columbia when, at one point, it didn't seem all too likely.

Unfortunately, things didn't work out for Brown beyond the 2021 season, but two years later, he has found a landing spot in Jackson State where he is unequivocally the man at the quarterback position for his team. The Bengal Tigers have seen tremendous success over the past few seasons thanks mainly to the publicity former Jackson State head coach Deion Sanders brought to the program, and they have used that publicity to become one of the best teams in the SWAC conference.

Jackson State kicked off the 2023 season on Saturday night against South Carolina State in the MEAC-SWAC Challenge, which was held in Turner Field, the old home of the Atlanta Braves. Regarding the game, Jason Brown had a near-perfect game for the Bengal Tigers, completing 78.7 percent of his passes for 361 yards, a MEAC-SWAC Challenge record, and three touchdowns. Another former South Carolina football player, wide receiver Rico Powers, led Jackson State in receiving yards with 95.

Every Gamecock fan knew when they watched him two years ago that Jason Brown could be a star Division 1 quarterback, and while it might've taken Brown longer than he would've liked, it seems that he's finally found a home in Jackson, MS, where he could realize his full potential.
