When it comes to South Carolina's offense, there's a plethora of storylines that fans and pundits alike are paying attention to; how Spencer Rattler gels with Dowell Loggains, what Dakereon Joyner looks like at running back, and the potential impact Nyckoles Harbor could have out wide. One storyline that's flown under the radar has been the offensive line, not the players themselves, but the coach leading the unit in 2023, Lonnie Teasley.

It seems to have been long forgotten that Teasley is heading into his first year as the o-line coach, after his predecessor Greg Adkins, who's still on staff as a senior analyst, took a step back after having dealt with health issues each of the past two seasons. While it's Lonnie's first year as an offensive line coach at the Power 5 level, his coaching journey that's led him to this point has more than prepared him for his opportunity, something that Nick Gargiulo indicated on Tuesday afternoon.

"[Coach Teasley's] a players coach. He's not too far removed from his playing days. He's an extremely young position coach in the SEC. He actually coached at the University of New Haven, and this was about six or seven years ago, so you coach [there], now you're a position coach in the SEC. So you wanna talk about a career trajectory that he's been on? He brings the same energy and enthusiasm to the o-line."

Along with his time coaching lower-level football in the northeastern US, Teasley also gained invaluable experience in the NFL, serving as an assistant o-line coach from 2015 to 2016 with the Baltimore Ravens. What he picked up from his time in the professional ranks is that every little thing matters when it comes to an offensive lineman's technique, and he's carried that mentality with him to Columbia.

"Working with coach Teasley is like working with an NFL coach because he looks at the little nuances that I don't even see," Sidney Fugar said on Tuesday. "It's important to him to fix those little things, and when you fix those little things, the big things just come easier."

Attention to detail will be something that will hold an even higher importance for the Gamecocks' offensive line unit this Fall, a unit that, if able to perform at a high enough level, could allow Spencer Rattler and his skill weapons to go to work in Dowell Loggains' new offense.
