Nate Adkins Agrees To An UDFA Deal With An AFC West Team
Nate Adkins had a key role in Gamecocks' offense with his elite blocking along with his playmaker ability, being used like former Gamecock and Pro-bowl fullback Adam Prentice, who's now with the New Orleans Saints. Now Adkins will have an opportunity to display those skills at the next level, as he was signed as an undrafted-free agent by the Denver Broncos on Saturday evening.
At the start of last season, Nate played fullback for the Gamecocks in certain packages and came in to block on special plays and played on all special-team units, but after a couple of injuries in the tight end room, Nate found himself becoming a nice playmaker for South Carolina. He racked up 168 yards on 13 catches in the final three games of the season, including a one-hand moss-like catch on Clemson linebacker Barrett Carter helping the Gamecock to beat Clemson that day 31-30.
Nate’s versatility will give him a real shot to make the 53-man roster in training camp or land a practice squad spot, and being a son of a former NFL offensive line coach, you won’t find many tight ends that can block as well as him or play as many roles as him.
