LOOK: NFL Players Rank Former Gamecock Deebo Samuel As Top 70 Player
South Carolina Football fans take great pride in cheering on the players who decide to dawn the garnet and black throughout their college football careers. That pride doesn't go away once these players move onto the next stage of their life, whether they use their degree to pursue a job in their respective field or get a shot to continue their football career at the professional ranks.
One former Gamecock that's given South Carolina fans much to cheer about over the past eight years is Deebo Samuel, a star offensive weapon for the NFC West's San Fransisco 49ers. Samuel has accomplished many things as a player and as a part of the 49ers, being named a First-team All-Pro receiver in 2021 and having appeared in three NFC Championship games and one Super Bowl in 2019, when he was a rookie.
Deebo has become revered around the league for his ability to beat defenses through conventional route patterns and his physical running style he displays after the catch. His fellow NFL players viewed him as the 19th best player in the NFL heading into 2022, and on Thursday, it was revealed that despite an injury-plagued down year this past Fall, Deebo is viewed as the 61st best player in the league according to players who voted.
Being recognized as one the best in the league by your teammates and opponents is seen as one of the greatest honors a professional athlete can receive, and Samuel will hope to show that he still belongs in that elite category of offensive weapons in 2023.
