A little over a week ago, the SEC, through ESPN's main channel and its own network, announced the full 2024 football schedule for each of its members, including the two it will add next Summer in Texas and Oklahoma. In terms of what South Carolina was dealt, the Gamecocks, like most of the teams, will have some intriguing home matchups and one really tough stretch that includes games against Ole Miss, Alabama, and Oklahoma in consecutive weeks.

Few schedules were viewed as easy or tolerable by knowledgeable fans and pundits alike, which is why, beyond his beginning thoughts, Shane Beamer explained on Wednesday that he found some of the responses to the schedule a bit funny.

"Initial reaction was probably like a lot of guys like, 'Wow,' you know, what an opportunity. It is tough. I laugh at the people that are like, 'Well, what a tough schedule,' and I'm like, 'You're in the SEC. Like exactly what combination of SEC football schedule would not be tough? When you look at it, who exactly will be sliding in their place to make it less tough?'" Shane said rhetorically.

One thing about Carolina's 2024 schedule is for certain: it will look drastically different as far as conference opponents go. The Gamecocks are set to face teams like the Rebels, Crimson Tide, Sooners, and LSU Tigers, with their last matchup against any of these teams taking place in 2020. With each of those teams coming off at least a 9-win season in 2023 and two of those matchups being on the road, fans will get their money's worth in terms of game draw and respectable college football destinations.

"Part of my initial reaction was what cool road games our fans are going to get to be able to experience," Beamer stated. "I know they love going to Lexington, I know they love going to Nashville, but now they get to go to Tuscaloosa and in Norman. I've already had, you know, people reach out to me about, 'We're definitely going to Oklahoma. What do we need to do when we go to Norman and Oklahoma City and all that?' So those will be two great trips, [and then] being able to get two teams coming into town in LSU and Ole Miss that don't typically come here as well."
