Cam Smith Visits Two More NFL Teams With Top-30 Draft Picks
Gamecock fans know Cam Smith is among the best corners in the 2023 NFL Draft, and draft analysts agree with this sentiment. His footwork allows him to stick with any receiver step-for-step, and his ability to get a hand on approaching passes makes him a significant challenge for opposing quarterbacks. This combination of footwork and ball-hawking ability has led to Smith being projected by draft analysts to be selected in the mid-first to early-second rounds come draft time.
Throughout this current stretch, prospects of Smith's caliber are receiving invitations to visit teams with a Top-30 draft pick, signifying where they're being prioritized. Earlier this month, Cam Smith visited the Baltimore Ravens and New York Giants on Top-30 visits. Now, he's also receiving high interest from the Jacksonville Jaguars and Tennessee Titans.
His visit with the Jacksonville Jaguars today is appropriate, as the Jaguars allowed the fifth most passing yards this past season. Holding the 24th overall pick, they are at the top of Cam Smith's draft projection range. If the Jaguars draft Cam Smith, he could provide an immediate spark to their defense and help them improve on their 2022 Divisional Round run.
From yesterday, Smith's visit with the Tennessee Titans was even more appropriate as the Titans were last in the NFL in both passing yards and passing completions allowed. Their Top-30 invitation to Cam Smith is not surprising but is very interesting, given their 11th and 41st overall draft slots. Taking Cam Smith at pick 41 seems like a stretch given Smith's draft profile, but should he slide that far, he could be one of the best value picks in the draft.
These draft spots are not absolute, as teams frequently trade picks during the draft to maximize talent and value. Given the invitations, Baltimore, New York, Jacksonville, and Tennessee seem to be the most likely spots for Smith to land; however, no matter which organization selects him, Cam Smith should quickly provide high-level production.
