REPORT: Former Gamecock Chris Lammons Signs With Indianapolis Colts
A bevy of former South Carolina Football stars have found themselves a new home in the NFL this offseason. Stephon Gilmore was ironically traded from Indianapolis to Dallas, Hayden Hurst signed a free-agent deal with the Carolina Panthers, and Dennis Daley signed a two-year deal with the Arizona Cardinals in late March.
One Gamecock alum, however, who had struggled to land on his feet this offseason was Chris Lammons after the Kansas City Chiefs stunned NFL fans by waiving him during the 2023 NFL Playoffs and allowed him to be picked up the following day by their eventual foes in the AFC Championship Game, the Cincinnati Bengals. Lammons then went back on the market this offseason, and despite his reputation as a noted special teams contributor, wasn't receiving widespread interest.
However, this changed on Thursday, as the AFC South's Indianapolis Colts signed Lammons to a free-agent deal.
Chris joins what's currently an extremely young secondary for the Colts, as based on their current training camp roster, Indianapolis only has two defensive backs with more than four years of NFL experience. With that in mind, expect Lammons to get plenty of snaps in the preseason and likely on different special teams units under first-year head coach Shane Steichen.
