Jadeveon Clowney Enjoying Career Revival With Baltimore Ravens
Just a decade ago, South Carolina's Football program was fortunate to have a player deemed one of the best high school football prospects of all time on their football team, defensive end Jadeveon Clowney. The South Carolina native was an athletic freak who could affect an opposing run game and the quarterback's mental clock.
His college tape led to him becoming the No. 1 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, and he spent the next five seasons with the Houston Texans. Since 2019, however, Clowney has become a pass-rushing mercenary, as he's been with four teams in that stretch. He also registered career lows in sacks, recording more than three sacks just once in a four-year window.
This past offseason, he signed on with the Baltimore Ravens, a team whose culture is primarily based around their tenacious style of play on the defensive side of the ball. Entering the season with some wondering if he was in the twilight of his football career, Jadeveon has reminded everyone that he's still one of the best at his position. Through week twelve of the NFL season, out of all the pass rushers aged 30 or older, Clowney ranks 4th in sacks with 7.5.
One of them occurred on Sunday night against the Los Angeles Chargers on a play that stopped the Bolts' best drive of the night and helped the Ravens secure their ninth win of the season.
He might not be quite the same dominant force he once was, but the former Gamecock star has more than proven this season that he still has plenty of gas left in the tank, which could help the Ravens go on a run in the NFL playoffs just a few weeks from now.
