Midweek Betting Odds: South Carolina vs Jacksonville State
At the start of the week, the South Carolina Gamecocks were listed as two-score favorites over the Jacksonville State Gamecocks, with the spread hovering between 13.5 to 15.5 points, depending on where you looked. Fast forward a couple of days, and it seems that the public has more confidence that Shane Beamer's squad will win this game comfortably over the first-year FBS program, as Carolina is viewed as a consensus 15.5-point favorite according to vegasinsider.com.
The matchup itself offers a lot of intriguing storylines outside of the namesake of each team's mascot. Shane Beamer and Rich Rodriguez will be coaching against one another as head coaches for the first time in their careers. Rich Rodriguez will be back in SEC country for the first time since his UL-Monroe Warhawks took on the Alabama Crimson Tide in the 2021 season.
The Gamecocks from Columbia will also be looking to parlay some of the defensive success they've seen since their second half against Missouri two weekends, where outside of their second quarter against Texas A&M, they've only given up 19 points. We'll continue to track these betting odds as we get closer and closer to gameday later this week.
