South Carolina Hires Special Teams Analyst
The South Carolina Gamecocks had one of the best special teams groups in college football, and they are still looking to improve. ESPN's Pete Thamel reported that the Gamecocks have come to an agreement to bring on Memphis's Tyler Zielenske as a special teams analyst.
Zielenske has worked for Memphis, Pitt, Texas, State, and South Alabama. He worked one year at Memphis under current South Carolina special teams coach Pete Lembo, considered one of the best in the country.
South Carolina's special teams unit was tops in the country last year with its efficiency with multiple blocked punts and kicks, most of them ending up as touchdowns and a couple of kick returns on the other end.
This unit will look to continue that success this coming year as it did last year, impacting games as it did in 2021. "Lembo Ball" in 2023 will return star punter Kai Kroeger, a first-team All-American this past year, along with kicker Mitch Jeter, who went perfect on field goals last season.
On the returning side, South Carolina will be bringing back experienced returners like Juju McDowell, Ahmarean Brown, and Xavier Legette, who had a 100-yard touchdown in the A&M game.
