Offensive Film Review: South Carolina Vs. Florida
One of the bright spots in the Gamecocks loss against the Gators this weekend was how this offense seemingly got some things figured out during their bye week. After making some changes on the offensive line and allowing some of their younger talent to get a chance to prove themselves, the offense looked the best it had all season, and the film showed that.
In the position grades, we stated this was by far the most complete game the offensive line unit has had in the first part of the season. The line opened more holes in the running game than this team is used to seeing. They also did a lot more chip-blocking with the tight ends and the running backs, as Dowell Loggains said they wanted to do earlier in the week. Doing so assisted in the run game and gave Rattler more time than he's accustomed to in pass protection.
The number of explosives this offense had in the game Saturday night didn't go unnoticed on the film either, and a lot of that had to do with the offensive unit executing and doing their job. The Gamecocks had eight explosives that went for 20 yards or more.
Lastly, a minor adjustment that I personally saw was how Loggains called his third downplays. He gave his playmakers a chance to win their one-on-one battles by spreading the field, whereas, on different occasions in the other games, he went with more bunch formations and relied on schemes to get guys open.
As we've said, this was a much better performance by the offense, and it all started with how Loggains and company stated they needed to change and finished with the players executing. There are still a couple of things they can and will need to do better down the stretch, but this program can and will likely need to win many games the rest of this season on the backs of this offense.
