South Carolina Tight End Stepping Away from Football
South Carolina received bad news Tuesday morning, as former Gamecock Tight End Jesse Sanders has announced via Twitter he will be stepping away from football. The three-year veteran cited two ACL tears to his left knee for his recent decision.
The tight end first enrolled in South Carolina in 2020. However, he suffered an ACL tear that kept him sidelined for the entirety of the 2020 season. Sanders followed up with the 2021 season appearing in just one game against Eastern Illinois. The former walk-on appeared in just one game once again this past season.
While Sanders may be hanging up his cleats, he might not be done working with South Carolina. In the announcement post, Sanders said that he plans to have an active role within the team and helping the program in any capacity he can. With the influx of new faces in the tight end room this upcoming season, maintaining Sanders' expertise and knowledge of the program could be pivotal for the team and the incoming players.
