REPORT: South Carolina To Hire Longtime NFL Assistant As New Special Teams Coordinator
After former South Carolina special teams coordinator Pete Lembo left for the head coaching job at Buffalo just six days ago, Gamecock head coach Shane Beamer has already found his replacement. Per NFL Insider Tom Pelissero, South Carolina is going to hire long-time NFL assistant and Super Bowl winning coach Joe DeCamillis to take over the Gamecocks special teams units.
DeCamillis served as the special assistant to the head coach for Steve Sarkisian at Texas in the 2023 season, and before that spent 32 years at the NFL level. During his time at the professional ranks, Joe served as the special teams coordinator for several franchises: the Dallas Cowboys, Chicago Bears, Denver Broncos, Jacksonville Jaguars and Los Angeles Rams. DeCamillis has won two super bowl rings, one with the Denver Broncos in 2015 and one with the Rams in 2021.
With Joe's addition to the staff, South Carolina now has four assistant coaches who have coached in an on-field role in the NFL at some point in their career.
