Shane Beamer said after the South Carolina Gamecocks loss to the Clemson Tigers that they didn't do a good enough job of protecting quarterback Spencer Rattler in 2023. While those issues don't fall solely on the shoulders of the offensive line, that position group does carry the burden of the responsibility in terms of keeping your quarterback upright.

Beamer and his staff are looking to add help at several positions in the transfer portal, and while the first portal window doesn't begin until next Sunday, they aren't waiting around to make a move. On Monday night, Southern Mississippi offensive lineman Gerquan Scott announced on X that he had received an offer from the Gamecocks.

It's the first public offer that's been dispensed to portal entry this offseason for South Carolina. Scott started 40 games for the Golden Eagles between 2020 and 2023, and all but four of those starts came at the left guard position. He was named a 4th-team Preseason All-Sun Belt selection by Phil Steele prior to the 2022 season.
