Spencer Rattler Continues Great Start To Season
The Gamecocks didn't have the start they wanted on Saturday night. After a rare Mitch Jeter miss, the unit almost instantly gave up an explosive play with a halfback pass from the Paladins. However, the Gamecocks would answer that with a touchdown drive of their own.
The story of the night, without a doubt, goes to Spencer Rattler. Once the offense started taking some shots and letting Rattler have time to progress through his read, he did not miss, completing 25 of his passes on 27 attempts, going for 345 yards and three touchdowns.
Rattler had all the time in the world to throw tonight against Furman for several reasons. The offensive line did a much better job in pass protection, giving up just one sack tonight, and Dowell Loggains did an excellent job of moving the launch point, not allowing the pass rush to pin their ears back and attack a certain point with Rattler in the pocket. The wideouts also won their one-on-ones and capitalized on the deep shots given to them.
Rattler completed 93% of his passes tonight against Furman with six explosives going for over 20 yards. Spencer Rattler is now 55 for 66 through two games with 698 passing yards and three touchdowns with zero turnovers, completing 83.3 percent of his passes.
The Gamecocks needed to get some much-needed momentum heading into its matchup with the currently ranked No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs. With Spencer having two very good weeks, the Gamecocks will need him to continue his hot streak next week.
