In week one of the upcoming college football season, a few marquee matchups stand out: Florida versus Utah, LSU versus Florida State, and Clemson versus Duke. One game, however, that could garner the most headlines out of the bunch is the Saturday night primetime event between the Gamecocks and the North Carolina Tar Heels.

The headlines in this matchup are obvious to anyone who does even just a few minutes of research: it's a border battle between the two Carolinas and South Carolina obliterated the Tar Heels in Charlotte just 19 months ago. However, the biggest storyline in this game, without question, is the matchup between both quarterbacks in South Carolina's Spencer Rattler and North Carolina's Drake Maye. The former Heisman preseason favorite who partly revitalized his career last November versus a current Heisman favorite who's being touted as a Top 2 in next year's NFL Draft.

This prominent headline has led to plenty of talk from fans and the media, who are curious to see which quarterback can lead their team to victory in Bank Of America Stadium. On Thursday, Spencer Rattler was asked about his feelings regarding the week one contest and the opportunity to dual with Drake Maye and kept his response respectful and light.

"I'm excited for the game. I haven't met Drake [Maye] yet," "He kinda blew up on the scene last year and had a great season. Credit to him, I'm excited to get to compete versus them. It'll be a fun game [and] hopefully we'll put on a show."

Although Spencer is not going to give Maye and the powder blue any bulletin board material, one has to assume that Rattler has a hidden chip on his shoulder as we inch closer to what's likely his final season of college football at South Carolina.
