Spencer Rattler Praises O'Mega Blake's Progress In Fall Camp

With Juice Wells out due to injury, South Carolina's Football team needs some wide receivers to step up, and O'Mega Blake is doing just that.

When looking at South Carolina's receiving core, it's easy to see who some of the top players are in the group. The Gamecocks possess a bonafide No. 1 receiver in Antwane Wells Jr., a physically-built downfield threat in Xavier Legette, a burner who can take the top off a defense in Ahmarean Brown, and a shifty, reliable slot receiver in Eddie Lewis.

Besides those wideouts, the Gamecocks don't have anyone else in the room that's shown flashes at the position for an individual game or an entire season. Nyckoles Harbor is an absolute unicorn who, over time, could become one of the most dangerous receivers in the conference. One name that's been left out of the conversation has been O'Mega Blake.

Heading into his third season in the program, the Palmetto State native has only appeared in four games in his career to this point, catching one pass for one receiving yard in the Gator Bowl last December. However, with Juice Wells currently sidelined with a lower-body injury, Blake has been given more opportunities to run with the first-team offense in Fall camp, and according to the Gamecocks' starting quarterback Spencer Rattler, O'Mega's development has been coming along nicely.

"O'Mega's been a great weapon for us. [He] can go get the ball, [and he's] high IQ football player. [He's] just gotta learn the small little details," Rattler explained. "O'Mega had a great scrimmage [on Saturday]. [I] hit him for a 75-yard touchdown in the scrimmage."

Suppose you scoff at these comments and say that Blake has got to prove it during a live game. In that case, you wouldn't be entirely incorrect, but the impact of Rattler's positive reinforcement, along with the plays O'Mega has made during Fall camp, could do wonders for his confidence as he tries to solidify a spot in the receiver rotation.
