Spencer Rattler Puts Together Impressive Performance Against Mississippi State
Spencer Rattler has continued to show why he may be one of the top quarterbacks in the nation against Mississippi State on Saturday night, and the second-year starter in Columbia completed 90 percent of his passes for 288 passing yards, three passing touchdowns, and rushed for 43 more yards on the ground. Rattler's great poise has been on display all season long and he keeps showing he can make the right reads and work through his progressions, including plays where there's pressure right in his grill.
Now, there has to be some credit given to this offensive line, who helped this team have its first 100-yard rushing game of the season, making life a bit easier for Spencer against the Mississippi State Bulldogs. However, enough can't be said for how great Rattler has played through these first four games of his final season in Columbia.
Spencer's lone incompletions came on a questionable no-call in the Bulldog redzone early in the fourth quarter, a no-call that seemed like defensive pass interference. The other incompletion came via a drop by Trey Knox with around six minutes to go in the ball game. With how well Spencer has played, surely, he also has some NFL scouts paying attention to him.
Through the first four games of the season Spencer Rattler is 95 of 128 and has thrown for 1,242 yards and seven touchdowns. Heading into Knoxville next week to face off against the Vols, Spencer and the Gamecocks get back to .500 on the year and 1-1 in SEC play. Having this kind of game offensively had to be a tremendous momentum boost for Loggains and this crew who will look to secure another conference win next week before heading into the bye week.
