Players To Watch: Vanderbilt's Offense
Vanderbilt has always been known for its academic prowess, but its football program has also produced some underrated individual talents. As we approach this week eleven bout, three offensive players for Vanderbilt have been making waves on the field. Here are the three players the Gamecocks' defense will need to account for if they hope to keep their bowl hopes alive:
Will Sheppard
A wide receiver with an uncanny ability to make plays when his team needs him the most, Will Sheppard has been Vanderbilt's go-to player for several years. Whether he's lining up inside or outside, Sheppard manages to make a significant impact. His versatility and ability to make challenging catches make him a consistent primary read option on third downs. His agility, paired with his impressive hands, makes him a tough opponent for any defense. Expect to see Sheppard receive plenty of attention this weekend.
Ken Seals
Following an injury to AJ Swann, Ken Seals has taken the helm as the starting quarterback. Despite occasionally putting the ball into risky areas, Seals has shown promising tendencies and has consistently demonstrated his potential. As a big-bodied quarterback, he can make plays through the air and with his legs. His physicality and versatility add another layer to Vanderbilt's offensive strategy. His ability to quickly adapt to the game's pace and make crucial decisions has also been noteworthy.
Sedrick Alexander
Despite being a freshman, running back Sedrick Alexander plays with the maturity and understanding of a seasoned veteran. With nearly 400 yards on 88 touches this season, Alexander has proven to be a valuable asset in Vanderbilt's offensive scheme. His ability to consistently gain positive yards, whether plowing over a defensive lineman or finding a gap, is exceptional. Furthermore, his contributions aren't limited to the running game, as Alexander has also shown potential as a receiving back, making him a dual threat that defenses must account for. His impressive debut season indicates a promising future for this young star.
These three players have shown impressive potential and have been integral parts of Vanderbilt's offensive system. For Clayton White and this defense to continue to move toward bowl eligibility, they will need to limit the success of Vanderbilt's offense, starting with these three athletes.
