BREAKING: Former Gamecock DL Xzavier McLeod Commits To SEC School
Since the end of the 2023 regular season, the South Carolina Gamecocks have lost seventeen players from their roster to the transfer portal. However, there's one other player who already left Shane Beamer's program in the middle of the 2023 season, and thus hasn't been discussed quite as much, and that player is freshman defensive lineman Xzavier McLeod.
Rumblings of a wish to redshirt in the midst of down year and other miscellaneous things were discussed in the aftermath of McLeod's departure, but without question, his exit leaves Carolina in a bind when it comes to their lack of young promising talent along the interior defensive line. The Gamecocks will also now likely have to face Xzavier once or twice in the next few years, as the Palmetto State native committed to the Georgia Bulldogs on Friday afternoon.
In four game appearances in 2023, McLeod recorded one solo tackle, one pass deflecton, and caught an interception against the Furman Paladins in week two. He'll have four years left of eligibility heading into 2024.
