Elyjah Thurmon Includes Gamecocks In His Top 8
Earlier today, the Gamecocks received the news that Elyjah Thurmon, an exceptional high school football talent, has narrowed his college choice to a select few schools. Thurmon announced on Sunday that he had narrowed down his group of top schools to eight programs, including South Carolina.
With verbal commitments from Josiah Thompson, Kam Pringle, and Blake Franks, offensive line coach Lonnie Teasley is still looking to add some much-needed depth. This recruitment is essential for the Gamecocks for several reasons, depth being one of them. However, the most important reason is the staff's emphasis on building future classes through the trenches. Pringle, Thompson, and Franks range from 6'5" - 6'7" with an average weight of 309 pounds. Thurmon would only add to that size standing at 6'4", coming in around 280 pounds. Elyjah Thurmon has not stated where he will be taking his official visits yet, but stressed to On3's Chad Simmons that his official visits would be a crucial indicator that will be factored into his final decision.
If Coach Beamer and his staff can land Elyjah Thurmon, it would add another notch to an already impressive offensive line recruiting class. The finalists for his commitment are South Carolina, Clemson, Duke, Florida, Georgia Tech, LSU, Missouri, and UCF. With his exceptional skills and potential, Thurmon has captured the attention of college football powerhouses nationwide, and he's inching closer to a final decision.
