South Carolina's 2023 Spring practice slate means much more for the team than simply getting back in playing condition. The Gamecocks' coaching staff have been incredibly active on the recruiting trail over the past year and, as a result, will be hosting several recruits over the next five weeks during spring practice.

One of the recruits attending South Carolina's first spring practice on Tuesday afternoon was 2024 offensive tackle Josiah Thompson. Thompson, On3's fourth-highest-rated offensive tackle in the class of 2024, is currently South Carolina's top recruiting target.

Despite his immense size, Thompson still possesses a mature athletic tool belt, making him a force on the line. His vertical quickness and fast twitch movements make him a dynamic run blocker. Considering South Carolina has struggled in run blocking over the past couple of seasons, Thompson would offer an immediate boost to the team.

Back in January, Thompson cut his recruiting down to six schools. Many experts believe that the Gamecocks are the leader for the 6-6 tackle, though time will tell. While fans eagerly await Thompson's announcement, after the practice, he hinted yesterday evening that an announcement could be coming soon.

Though all talks surrounding his recruitment are speculative, Thompson's tweet and timing should leave Gamecocks fans optimistic. Multiple South Carolina Football commits from the 2024 recruiting class have also pushed for the South Carolina native to join them in Columbia.
