REACTION: Gamecocks Getting Athletic and Physical Corner In Jalewis Solomon
This morning, Gamecock nation got the "Welcome Home" tweet from head coach Shane Beamer, and we soon found out just who the Welcome Home was, as Jalewis Solomon announced his commitment to South Carolina on Sunday evening. We took a look at what exactly Shane Beamer and company are getting in Solomon.
The very first thing that jumps out watching his mid-season film is how truly athletic he is. He has the ability to make almost any catch and possesses the speed to run by you. While he primarily will play defensive back/nickel corner at Carolina, the talent he has with his hands will come in use as well.
He's also great in phase, almost comes as naturally for him to cover than it is for him to catch. Even at times when the receiver may have him beat, he's able to use his speed to recover. However, I think the most important thing that I notice from his tape is not only the ability to, but the willingness to tackle and strike. He is very disciplined in that department to where he constantly breaks down and then explodes.
This is an extremely important pickup for Torrian Gray and the defense for Carolina. The commitment from Solomon gives the Gamecocks their 16th commit and a class grade of 244.5 which is good for the 18th best class in the country, per 247Sports rankings.
