Shane Beamer and South Carolina's Football coaching staff have proven two different things throughout their time in Columbia: they can beat out the best programs in college football for national-level prospects and they can land multiple players who, in retrospect, flew under the radar during their high school career. In terms of the latter group, prospects like Nick Emmanwori, Kajuan Banks, and DQ Smith have all vastly outperformed the respective average rankings placed on them coming out of high school.

The Gamecocks think they might have uncovered another diamond in the rough in linebacker Fred Johnson out of Virginia, who turned heads at a South Carolina Football camp earlier this month when he clocked in a 4.54 40-yard dash and 4.20 20-yard shuttle, unreal times considering his 6'3, 225 pound frame. This led to Johnson both taking an official visit to Columbia two weekends ago and him receiving an offer from defensive coordinator Clayton White. Then, on Monday afternoon, Fred posted an instagram story revealing that he'll be announcing his commitment on Friday night.

Johnson has also been offered by the home-state Virginia Tech Hokies, along with other Power 5 programs in the Maryland Terrapins, Duke Blue Devils and Rutgers Scarlet Knights.
