Stanford lands commitment from Providence transfer Jared Bynum
Stanford will have some very much needed guard help on campus next season as Providence transfer Jared Bynum announced via Twitter on Monday that he is committed to Stanford.
The former three-star recruit out of Rockville (Md.) Georgetown Preparatory School, started his career at Saint Joseph’s before transferring to Providence. Bynum averaged 10 points and 4.3 assists this past season for the Friars, and helped them reach the NCAA Tournament.
Bynum was also named to the All-Big East second team and Sixth Man of the Year selection in the 2021-22 season, and ranks as the No. 47 transfer in the portal.
In landing him, Stanford gets an experienced and proven guard who can help Spencer Jones run the offense, while also helping take the pressure off highly touted freshmen five-star Andrej Stojakovic and four-star Kanaan Carlyle.
This marks the second year in a row that the Cardinal have brought in a player from the transfer portal, and being that they have lost four players of their own to the portal; it appears they will continue to be active in courting more transfers.
Jerod Haase is looking to end his dry spell of making it to the NCAA Tournament, as in his seven years as head coach he has yet to guide Stanford to a March Madness appearance.
