Just when Stanford and Cal thought the ACC would be their saving grace, it turns out that the conference appears to be done looking into expansion.

According to multiple reports, despite the fact that Notre Dame was pushing for their entry into the conference the two did not garner all of the support they needed. 247Sports' Jason Scheer reported that they racked up 10 supporters in favor of adding them but they need 12 of the 15 programs on board.

The two are now left hoping that the Big Ten reconsiders adding them, or they will have to consider other less than ideal options like merging with the Mountain West, American, or going independent.

Stanford is viewed as being the one program in what's left of the Pac-12 as having "options" but this certainly takes the wind out of their sails a bit. Head coach Troy Taylor told the media on Tuesday that he expects Stanford to end up in another Power 5 conference regardless of how far it is.
