Stanford coach Troy Taylor 'can't imagine anything' other than Power 5 football in Stanford's future
With college football still figuring out what exactly happened to the conference that was once the richest in the country, there are still four programs remaining looking to land elsewhere.
While there are questions around Oregon State and Washington State and what their plan is, Stanford and Cal appear to have an option in joining the ACC. While they have yet to be voted in and financial things still need figuring out, head coach Troy Taylor addressed the media following practice on Tuesday and expressed confidence that Stanford will be in a Power 5 conference.
"I think the players that committed to us and came here, they want to play Power 5 football, and that is what our intention is with this university," Taylor said. "I can't imagine anything else."
The ACC met on Tuesday morning to discuss the possible additions of Stanford and Cal, and we learned later in the day that SMU is also under consideration. The only hiccup for the West coast schools and joining the ACC would be travel, something that Taylor explained he and the program would be fine with.
"I'm OK with traveling. Our guys love playing football, and if you've got to travel a little more, that means when people come play us, they got to travel," Taylor said. "We want to be in a great conference, and we're sure that will happen. The travel, if that happens, it's fine.
He continued saying:
"People used to have to come across the country in a covered wagon -- it would take them months and they'd be completely different people by the time they got there. We get on a plane for five hours, six hours, that's not the end of the world. You get drinks served to you and some snacks, and it's not that bad."
According to ESPN, Stanford is expecting to have an answer and where they will be going by the end of this week.
